Therapy Intensive for Addictive Behaviors
Addictive behavior don’t always look the same on the surface
Addiction does not always present itself clearly. For some, it may involve substance use, for others, it may take the form of behaviors like gaming, compulsive sexual behavior, gambling, eating, or even exercise. What often begins as a way to cope, escape, or manage stress can gradually become something that feels difficult to control.
Many individuals and families come to a point where they know something is not working, but they do not yet have clarity on what the problem is or what to do next. An Addiction Assessment and Treatment Planning Intensive is designed to provide that clarity.
What Is a Therapy Intensive for Addictive Behaviors
A therapy intensive is a structured, multi-day therapeutic experience designed to evaluate patterns of addictive or compulsive behaviors. Our team uses decades of experience in residential treatment settings and extensive training to identify the underlying factors driving those patterns and help clients find a path forward.
Over several consecutive days, individuals work closely with a primary clinician to evaluate these patterns as well as the emotional, relational, and environmental influences. The therapist will also work to assess ay underlying trauma, stress, or attachment-related factors that may be contributing to the addictive behaviors. This process is not about labeling. It is about understanding the full picture so that the next step is both informed and appropriate.
What Are Considered Addictive Behaviors?
Addictive behaviors are patterns that become difficult to regulate and begin to negatively impact daily life, relationships, and overall well-being. These may include: An intensive format can help you with some of the following.
Substance use involving drugs or alcohol
Video gaming that interferes with sleep, school, work, or relationships
Eating patterns tied to emotional regulation, control, or avoidance
Technology or screen use that becomes difficult to limit
Compulsive exercise driven by anxiety, identity, or self-worth
Compulsive sexual behaviors
These behaviors are often misunderstood because they can appear normal or socially acceptable at first. Over time, however, they can begin to function as a primary way of coping, avoiding, or managing internal distress. A thorough assessment helps determine whether these patterns are situational, habitual, or part of a deeper cycle that would benefit from structured intervention.
When Is an Intensive for Addiction a Good Fit?
When addiction concerns arise, decisions often feel urgent. Families may feel pressure to act quickly without having a full understanding of what is actually needed. A focused, multi-day intensive allows for a more thorough and thoughtful evaluation. Through this process, individuals and families can:
Gain a comprehensive understanding of substance use and behavioral patterns
Identify underlying trauma, emotional struggles, or relational dynamics
Understand how coping patterns may be reinforcing cycles of dependency
Clarify the most appropriate level of care
Receive clear clinical recommendations and next steps
Develop a structured plan for long-term healing and stability
Vine + Root intensives provide the time and structure necessary to move beyond guesswork and develop a thoughtful treatment plan. Instead of reacting to symptoms alone, our clinicians work to understand the full picture and help individuals and families make informed decisions about the most effective path forward.
Looking Beyond the Behavior
Addictive behaviors are rarely just about the behavior itself.
Substance use and compulsive patterns are often connected to deeper experiences involving trauma, stress, attachment, identity, or unresolved emotional pain. Without addressing these underlying factors, long-term change can be difficult to sustain.
This intensive is designed to look beneath the surface.
Our clinicians work to understand not only what is happening, but why it is happening, helping individuals and families move toward meaningful and lasting change.
