You Are Not Alone
We just wrapped our 2021 Capstone Reunion this past weekend. This is one of our favorite times of the year – to reminisce on times at Capstone, reconnect with alumni clients & families, and be restored. Attendees often walk in hesitantly – not sure of what to expect, who they will see, or where everyone else is in their journey. After a full day of Mom, Dad, Parents, Family, and Sons groups, one thing is clear: You are not alone.
“We can’t talk to anyone else about this.”
“No one else understands – not even our friends.”
“What will our church family think?”
“We thought it was just us.”
All sentiments that we have heard our Capstone parents share. When families are in crisis and seeking answers and healing, it can often feel like a lonely road. Community is one of the least anticipated, but most appreciated benefits of what we do. From our clients forming bonds through experiencing some of the hardest but most rewarding work that they’ve ever been challenged with, to parents supporting each other and hearing, “I understand”, healthy community is built through recovery.
This weekend, we sat in several parent sessions of alumni families who expressed their gratitude for the community and accountability that they have found in one another. From private Facebook groups to Alumni Mom Zoom meetings, there is a space for you. We also witnessed our alumni clients embrace each other and inquire about plans, goals, and the general well-being of their peers. Because truthfully, whether their parents have given them an ultimatum or they decided to seek treatment on their own, healthy peer relationships are important and an impactful part of the road to recovery.
“What if I’m the only one that struggles with this?”
“I don’t need help.”
“I don’t know if I’m ready to commit to sobriety.”
All sentiments that we have heard from prospective clients. Coming to receive treatment is not an easy decision, and it doesn’t mean that you are the only one that could use some help. What it does mean, however, is that you won’t be alone on your journey to better living. Our team approach to health and healing is one that we take seriously, and our commitment to walk alongside you and your family is second to none.
This weekend, we were reminded of the safe-haven that our community has served as over the last 20 years. For every discouraged dad, there is an alumni dad that has shared your very frustrations. For every torn mom, there is a mom to put her hand on your shoulder and tell you, “It gets better”. For every curious client, there is an alumni who has been in the very place that you are now. While we don’t claim to have all the answers, we are confident of one thing: You are not alone.
